An indictment against a 32-year-old resident of Ivano-Frankivsk region was sent to the court under the procedural guidance of the Frankiv District Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Lviv. He is charged with robbery (Part 4 of Article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The investigation established that in Lviv, the accused, under the pretext of being a potential tenant, came to inspect the apartment of a retired couple. During the conversation with the victims, the man asked the latter to exchange money, to which they agreed. The pensioners went to the folding table where they kept all their savings and opened the top lid to get the money.
In this way, the defendant saw where pensioners keep their funds.
When the victims left the room for a moment, he immediately began stealing savings from the cache. The pensioner, returning back to the room, began to make remarks. However, the man pushed him onto the sofa and continued his robbery. In particular, he stole more than UAH 400,000 and fled the scene.
The accused is currently in custody.
The pre-trial investigation was carried out by investigators of the Lviv District Police Department No. 2 of the Main Police Department.
Note: in accordance with Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until his guilt is proven in a legal manner and established by a court verdict.
