On Sunday, 19 July, a deterioration in weather conditions is expected in Lviv: according to the Lviv Regional Hydrometeorology Centre, thunderstorms are forecast, and during the day hail and gale-force winds of 15–20 m/s are possible. Lviv City Council is urging residents to take the forecast into account and exercise caution during the bad weather.
The city department for civil protection and territorial defence has reminded residents of the basic safety rules during a thunderstorm.
While at home, people are advised to keep windows and doors tightly closed and to disconnect all appliances from the mains, including landline telephones and other equipment, to reduce the risk of being struck by lightning.
If the bad weather catches you outside, you should not shelter under trees, as they attract lightning and there is also a risk of branches falling due to strong winds. It is recommended to stay well away from metal fences, advertising structures and electricity pylons, and not to use umbrellas with a metal frame, as metal attracts electrical discharges.
In the event of dangerous or emergency situations, residents are asked to contact the city’s “Hotline” on the short number 15-80. You can also submit requests via the Facebook group “Гаряча лінія 1580”, the “Львів 1580” mobile app for Android and iOS, the 1580.lviv.ua portal or using the Telegram bot Lviv1580bot.
