Hydrological situation on rivers in Lviv region as of the morning of 9 August

As of 08:00 on 9 August 2026, most rivers in the Dniester basin within Lviv region are showing falls in water levels of 1–19 cm over 24 hours. At the same time, in the lower reaches of the Strv’iazh and Stryi rivers, as well as on the Dniester from the city of Sambir to the settlement of Rozdil, and in the area of the hydrological gauging station on the Vyshnia River near the village of Tvirzha (the San basin), rises in water levels of 2–28 cm were observed due to the arrival of a wave from the upper reaches.

On the evening of 8 August, peak water levels passed along certain sections of rivers in the Dniester and San basins. On the lowland rivers of the San and Western Bug basins, minor fluctuations in levels of 1–3 cm over 24 hours were recorded, with a general tendency towards falling levels.

In the area of the hydrological gauging station on the Dniester near the settlement of Rozdil, the water level remains below the minimum values recorded over the entire long-term observation period. Water temperature in the mountain tributaries of the Dniester was 11–17°, while on other rivers in the region it generally remained within 17–26°.

According to the advisory forecast, further falls in water levels are expected over the next 24 hours on rivers in the Dniester basin. At the same time, in the area of the hydrological gauging station on the Dniester near the settlement of Zhuravno, a rise in water level of 0.1–0.3 m relative to current readings is possible due to the passage of a low wave from the upper reaches.

On the lowland rivers of the San and Western Bug basins, minor fluctuations in water levels with a tendency towards gradual falls are expected to continue.
