In the Mostyska community, residents have been reminded of the need to respond immediately to air-raid alerts and to think in advance about where they can safely wait out the danger. This was reported by the Mostyska City Council.
Residents are urged in advance to identify the nearest shelter and the route to it, and, when an alert is announced, to go straight to a safe place without waiting for the threat to draw nearer. If there is no fully equipped protective structure nearby, people are advised to find out in advance whether there is an accessible and safe basement or semi-basement. Particular emphasis is placed on the need to help children, older people, persons with disabilities and residents with limited mobility.
Suitable basements of residential buildings, administrative premises, institutions and other underground spaces can be used as potential shelters. At the same time, the City Council warns that not every basement is safe: the strength of the structures, the presence of a safe exit, ventilation and conditions for staying there without risk to life are all crucial.
If it is impossible to reach a shelter, people are advised to move to a room without windows, preferably located behind two walls from the street. This option is considered only as a temporary way to reduce risk, not as a full replacement for a protective structure.
According to the results of commission inspections in the Mostyska community, six protective structures are registered, of which four are currently deemed unfit for their intended use. As of now, a protective structure with a capacity of 50 people is available at: Mostyska, 5-1 Hrushevskoho Street.
The Mostyska City Council also reports plans to equip a shelter in the basement premises of the Mostyska People’s House.
The community stresses that safety begins with responsible behaviour by everyone: air-raid alerts should not be ignored, people need to know in advance where they can take cover, and they should look after their loved ones. Additional rules of conduct in shelters and civil protection materials are available on the official website of the Mostyska City Council in the section “Civil protection / Important”.
