Dangerously low water levels forecast on the Dniester, San and Western Bug

Meteorologists are warning of a third-level hazardous hydrological event linked to dangerously low water levels in rivers in the western regions of Ukraine.

From 1 to 15 September, rivers in the Dniester basin (within Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil and Khmelnytskyi regions), the San (Lviv region) and the Western Bug (Lviv and Volyn regions) will continue to experience a slight but persistent fall in water levels, reaching the lowest values recorded over the entire multi-year observation period, and in some places even dropping below these figures.

According to the forecast, river discharge will continue to decrease to values below the low-water threshold. On most watercourses, significant overgrowth of riverbeds with aquatic vegetation is expected, and on certain stretches of small rivers the flow may cease completely.

These conditions will further complicate the operation of the region’s water management system. A brown level of danger has been declared for this hydrological event.
