Between 16 and 30 October, rivers in the Dniester basin (within Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil and Khmelnytskyi regions), the San (Lviv region) and the Western Bug (Lviv and Volyn regions) are expected to remain in a low summer–autumn low-water regime. This is stated in a warning about a hazardous hydrological phenomenon of SHP-III level.
According to hydrologists, water levels in these rivers will remain close to the lowest recorded over the entire multi-year observation period, and in some stretches may be even lower. River discharge is expected to be low, in places at or below the low-water threshold.
The forecast rainfall will cause only slight and short-lived rises in water levels, which will not change the overall hydrological situation. In some places, river channels will continue to become overgrown with aquatic vegetation, and on certain small watercourses the flow may cease completely, with the water effectively standing.
Such conditions will complicate the operation of the region’s water management system, particularly the provision of water resources to various users. A brown level of danger has been set for this period.
