Dangerously low water levels forecast on the Dniester, San and Western Bug

Meteorologists are warning of a level three hydrological hazard — a dangerous drop in water levels in a number of rivers in Western Ukraine.

According to forecasters, between 26 and 31 August, water levels in the rivers of the Dniester basin (within Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil and Khmelnytskyi regions), the San (Lviv region) and the Western Bug (Lviv and Volyn regions) will continue to fall to the lowest values recorded over many years of observation, and in some places even below these figures.

As a result, river flow will decrease to low-water criteria, and on some small watercourses the flow may cease completely. This situation may lead to disruptions in the operation of the region’s water management system, particularly in terms of supplying water to the population, agriculture and industrial facilities.

A brown danger level has been declared for this period, so residents and users of water resources are advised to follow the official reports of the hydrometeorological service and the responsible agencies closely.
