Critically low water levels persist on the Dniester, San and Western Bug

Hydrologists warn that a level III hydrological natural hazard persists due to very low water levels in the rivers of the Dniester and San basins within Lviv region, and the Western Bug within the territories of Lviv and Volyn regions.

According to the forecast, from 31 October to 13 November these water bodies will remain in a low summer–autumn low-flow regime. Water levels will stay close to the lowest values recorded over the entire multi-year observation period, and in some sections may even fall below these figures.

River discharge will be low, in places at or below the low-water threshold. In some areas, river channels will remain heavily overgrown with aquatic vegetation, and on small rivers the complete cessation of flow and the formation of standing water are possible.

Such conditions, specialists caution, will continue to complicate the operation of the water management infrastructure in the regions. A brown danger level has been set for this hydrological phenomenon.
