On Thursday, 13 August, the removal of a hazardous maple and linden tree is planned on the slope of Shota Rustaveli Street in Lviv. During the works, part of the street will be temporarily closed to traffic, the Halytskyi District Administration reported.
Before the decision was taken, experts inspected the trees and declared them hazardous: they had begun to dry out, cavities had formed in the trunks, and part of the crown and large branches had already been left without leaves and had died.
Traffic on Shota Rustaveli Street will be closed from 09:00 to 13:00 on the section from Voloska Street to Arkhypenka Street. Special machinery will be used to carry out the works, so it will be impossible to drive along this part of the street.
Private vehicles will be able to travel along the lower part of Shota Rustaveli Street. Public transport does not operate on this section, so bus and trolleybus routes will remain unchanged.
«To avoid negative consequences, since the trees could break in strong winds, it was decided to cut them down… Private vehicles will be able to use the lower part of Shota Rustaveli Street. Public transport does not operate on this section, so these works will not affect it,» the Halytskyi District Administration reported.
The City Council also reminds residents that in the course of 2025, a total of 5,472 new green plantings were planted on the streets and in the parks of Lviv, including 1,165 trees and 4,307 shrubs. Some of the plants were purchased with budget funds, and a significant number were provided with the support of benefactors as part of the “Give the City a Tree” campaign.
To improve greening of the grounds of educational institutions and nursery schools, 67 trees and 305 shrubs were planted in 17 educational institutions in cooperation with the Department of Education and horticulturists.
