Meteorologists warn of extreme fire danger in Lviv

The Lviv Regional Hydrometeorological Centre warns of an increased level of fire danger in Lviv. According to the meteorologists’ forecast, the city is expected to face a high fire danger of the 4th class on 10 August, and an extreme fire danger of the 5th class on 11–12 August.

The Lviv City Council is urging residents to pay close attention to the forecast and strictly observe fire safety rules, in particular not to burn dry grass or other plant waste.

The Department for Civil Protection and Territorial Defence of the Lviv City Hall reminds the public that unauthorised burning of dry vegetation, which is prohibited in Ukraine, is punishable by a fine ranging from 3,060 to 6,120 UAH for private individuals and from 15,300 to 21,420 UAH for officials. If such actions take place in nature reserves, the fine ranges from 6,120 to 12,240 UAH.

Officials also warn that during wartime such arson may be treated as acts of sabotage, which carry criminal liability.

Residents are advised to call 101 or 102 immediately if they notice dry vegetation burning or individuals starting fires.
