The Lviv Regional Hydrometeorological Centre has warned that on 5–6 August Lviv will face an extreme risk of wildfires. According to the forecast, air temperatures may rise to 40–42°C, so the city authorities are urging residents to monitor the weather closely and follow safety rules.
The Department for Civil Protection and Territorial Defence of the Lviv City Council reminds the public that the unauthorised burning of dry vegetation is prohibited in Ukraine. Such actions carry fines ranging from 3,060 to 6,120 UAH for private individuals and from 15,300 to 21,420 UAH for officials. If burning takes place in protected areas, the fines increase to 6,120–12,240 UAH. During wartime, such actions may be treated as sabotage, which entails criminal liability.
Because of the forecast heat, additional measures are in place in Lviv to reduce the impact of high temperatures on the city’s infrastructure. Watering vehicles are operating in different districts of the city, and water mist sprayers have been installed in public spaces to cool the air.
The city has also reintroduced temporary restrictions on the movement of oversized and heavy goods vehicles. These measures comply with current legislation and are intended to protect the road surface, which becomes more vulnerable to heavy loads during extreme heat.
Residents are reminded that if they notice fires being started or dry vegetation burning, they should immediately call 101 or 102.
