In Lviv, due to air temperatures rising above +28°C, temporary restrictions have been introduced on the movement of oversized and heavy goods vehicles. The measures are in place to reduce the risk of damage to the asphalt concrete surface in hot weather.
Drivers of vehicles with an actual weight of over 24 tonnes or with an axle load of more than 7 tonnes are advised not to enter Lviv from 10:00 to 22:00. Hauliers are recommended to schedule journeys for the evening, night or morning hours and, where possible, to wait out the heat at lay-bys near the city entrances.
«In hot weather, the asphalt concrete surface becomes more plastic, and the movement of heavy vehicles can lead to its deformation. We ask hauliers to treat these restrictions with understanding and, where possible, to refrain from entering the city during the daytime. This will help to keep the road infrastructure in proper condition», — note the Department of Urban Mobility and Street Infrastructure of the Lviv City Council.
At the entrances to Lviv, compliance with the restrictions is monitored by officers of the Patrol Police and Ukrtransbezpeka. Specific sections of the city where the movement of freight transport is prohibited are additionally monitored by staff of the City Security Centre using CCTV cameras. Information on detected violations is passed to the police for further processing and for bringing drivers to administrative liability.
The Security Centre reminds residents that on some streets in Lviv road sign 3.3 “No goods vehicles” is in force. Drivers are advised to pay close attention to the additional plates under the sign, which may specify the time the restriction applies, the type of vehicle, or the area covered by the sign.
Residents are asked to inform the police by calling 102 if they notice freight vehicles moving in places where this is prohibited by road signs.
