Second stage of reconstruction of Zaliznychna Street in Lviv: underground utilities being installed

The second stage of the reconstruction of Zaliznychna Street in Lviv is under way on the section from Yasna Street to Storozhenka Street. On this stretch the old surface has been removed and one of the key stages of the works is in progress — the installation of new underground utilities.

According to LKP “Lvivavtodor”, the largest volume of work has already been carried out on the section from Yasna Street to Olena Stepanivna Street. Here the engineering networks have been almost completely renewed, and the installation of a new water main is nearing completion. At the same time, the sub-base is being formed for the future carriageway and pavements.

“In the near future, on the section from Yasna Street to Olena Stepanivna Street, we will start laying the structural layers of the road surface and installing kerbs,” said Mykola Vlasiuk.

During the repairs, a diversion route has been organised for vehicles around the closed part of the street. Traffic from the Storozhenka Street side is being directed via Shchekavytska Street, Olena Stepanivna Street, Kvitky-Osnovianenka Street, Bortnianskoho Street and Lutskoho Street, with onward exit to Shevchenka Street. From the Yasna Street side the diversion runs via Brativ Duzhykh Street and Brativ Mikhnovskykh Street, exiting onto Horodotska Street.

The repair of Zaliznychna Street began at the end of last year. The reconstruction project provides for the complete replacement of all utilities, renewal of the road surface, installation of two cycle lanes, repair of pavements and the creation of parking spaces. The carriageway and cycle lanes will be surfaced with asphalt concrete, the parking spaces will be paved with setts, and the pavements will be laid with FEM tiles.

The street is to be levelled out to a single height to make it easier for all categories of residents to get around. A significant number of pedestrian crossings will be raised to pavement level for pedestrians’ convenience and safety.

As noted at Lvivavtodor, the repair works are financed with loan funds, since the city budget’s resources are primarily directed towards supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
