Lviv has introduced financial support for the development of a collection, sorting, refurbishment and reuse point for used items. The relevant procedure for the use of budget funds has been approved by the executive committee of Lviv City Council.
The recipient of the funds has been designated as the Lviv city public organisation «Community of Mutual Aid “Oselya”». The funding will be directed towards logistics: collection and transportation of items, their sorting, as well as the safe removal and disposal of textile and other remnants that are not suitable for further use.
«In this way, items that can still be useful will be passed on for reuse, while those that are no longer suitable will go for proper disposal. This helps to reduce the amount of waste and promotes the development of reuse» — note the city council’s social protection department.
To receive the funding, “Oselya” must submit the required package of documents to the social protection department of Lviv City Council: an action plan, a cost estimate, as well as confirmation regarding the organisation of the removal and disposal of waste. In 2026 these documents must be submitted by 31 August.
The use of budget funds will be monitored by the social protection department. The organisation must report monthly on the number of items collected, the volume of clothing and other items passed on for reuse, as well as the quantity of unsuitable items sent for disposal.
If the terms are breached or the funds are used for purposes other than those intended, the funding may be suspended and any amounts unduly received will be subject to return to the city budget.
The “Community of Mutual Aid “Oselya”” has been operating in Lviv since 2002. The organisation supports people who have found themselves homeless or in difficult life circumstances not only through material assistance, but also by creating conditions for communal living and work, restoring social ties and returning to independent living. Last September, “Oselya” won a tender for the procurement of social services for homeless people.
