Lviv region is the first in Ukraine to approve the Action Plan for the Fair Transformation of the Coal Microregion by 2030.
In October 2024, Lviv region became the first region to approve the Action Plan for the Fair Transformation of the Coal Microregion. In one year of implementing the Plan, about 500 million hryvnias were accumulated from various budget levels for project implementation. A significant portion of this amount comes from financial support by GIZ, which has been a reliable partner for Lviv region in the transformation process from the very beginning.
Communities in the Sheptytsky district are actively participating in the changes. Examples include the successful participation of Belz, Sokal, and Dobrotvir communities in Ukraine–Poland contests, as well as the Sheptytska community attracting resources from the state budget within the Ukraine Reconstruction Program III. These results indicate the growing institutional capacity of the communities and their desire to turn strategic documents into real changes.
The year 2025 opens up new opportunities. On June 19, the State Target Program for the Fair Transformation of Coal Regions by 2030 was approved. A memorandum within the “Power4JustTransition” program was signed with support from the German government for the next 3 years. The next step is to properly set priorities and make the most of available opportunities for further community development.
