In the current year, farmers of the Lviv region collected a 10.8% larger harvest of oil crops compared to last year.
Gross volume of all oil crops: 638,000 tons were collected from an area of 212,400 hectares. The areas of oil fields in the current year are 9% larger than last year. The Department of Agro-Industrial Development of Lviv Oblast was informed.
“Dynamics of increase in cultivated areas and production volumes of oil crops in the commercial sector have been observed over the past 5 years. The impetus for this was a change in the market situation and an increase in business profitability due to the production of products with added value,” commented the director of the department, Tetiana Hetman.
According to the department’s information, oilseeds occupy almost 50% of the structure of the total cultivated area in the industrial sector, and more than 800 farms grow them in the region. In the course of 2019-2023, the cultivated area of oilseeds increased by 41.1% (from 150.5 to 212.4 thousand hectares), and the production volume by 52.9% (from 418.0 to 638.0 thousand tons).
In the current year, due to a 13.7% increase in soybean and rapeseed acreage compared to last year, as well as an average 6% yield of soybeans and sunflowers, the production volumes of all oil crops in the commercial sector exceeded the forecasted indicator of 2023 by 2% .
Soybean is the leader in the rate of expansion of cultivated areas, it is grown by more than 500 agricultural enterprises. According to this year’s sown area of soybeans, Lviv Oblast ranks 7th among regions, which is 6.4% of the sown area of soybeans in Ukraine. And over the past 5 years, the area under soybeans in the region has more than doubled (from 57.8 to 116.4 thousand hectares), production volumes have increased almost 2.2 times (from 159.3 to 346.8 thousand tons) .
