LMKP “Lvivvodokanal” is entering the final stage of construction of a new sewer collector to Vynnyky. According to the company, more than 12 km of 400 mm diameter pipelines have already been laid, which is about 94% of the total length of the network.
The new collector will connect the sewage pumping station in the Vynnyky community with Lviv’s treatment facilities. Lvivvodokanal emphasises that this is one of the largest infrastructure projects of recent years, designed to strengthen the reliability of the wastewater disposal system, reduce the risk of breakdowns and create a capacity reserve for the community’s further development.
Construction began even before the full-scale invasion by the Russian Federation. However, first the COVID-19 pandemic, and later martial law, significantly slowed down the pace of works. Full-scale activity was only restored in 2024.
The company notes that the collector is being laid in stages, replacing old asbestos cement pipes that had been in service for decades and were often the cause of breakdowns. In certain sections, the network runs at a considerable depth, which complicates construction: specialists prepare the trenches, weld and install the polyethylene pipes, and also fit the necessary elements of the sewer network.
“Importantly, we are implementing the project using the company’s own funds. The works are being carried out by our sewerage service without involving contractors, which allows us to significantly reduce costs,” Lvivvodokanal notes.
Lvivvodokanal plans to complete the entire scope of works by mid-December. To finalise construction, it is necessary to lay a further 800 m or so of pipelines, build four sewer manholes and arrange two sewer chambers.
Overall, the project provides for the installation of two parallel pressurised pipelines of the sewer network with a total length of 13.6 km, which should improve the reliability and redundancy of the wastewater disposal system between Vynnyky and Lviv.
