LMKP “Lvivvodokanal” is entering the final stage of reconstructing the trunk water main of the western group of water intakes, which supplies water to Lviv. On the section where works are under way, 990 metres of new 820 mm diameter pipe have already been installed out of the planned one kilometre.
The most challenging part of the project has been laying the pipeline under the road. To protect the network from loads caused by traffic, specialists have placed the water pipe inside a special metal casing. This solution is designed to reduce the risk of damage and ensure a long service life for the network.
“When reconstructing trunk water mains, it is important not only to replace old pipes, but also to ensure the reliability of the new infrastructure in demanding conditions. That is why on sections where the pipeline runs under roads we apply additional protection. This helps to reduce the risk of damage and contributes to the stable operation of the water main,” LMKP “Lvivvodokanal” notes.
At this point, there remain approximately 10 metres of pipeline to be laid on the problematic section. Once the works are completed, the water main will become another upgraded element of the critically important infrastructure on which the stable water supply of Lviv depends.
The company emphasises that the modernisation of trunk water mains is part of a comprehensive renewal of the city water supply system. Replacing worn-out utilities with modern ones helps reduce the number of breakdowns, cut water losses and improve the reliability of supply to consumers.
In addition, LMKP “Lvivvodokanal” is simultaneously completing the construction of a new sewer collector to Vynnyky. More than 12 km of 400 mm diameter pipeline have already been installed, which is 94% of the designed length. The new collector will connect the wastewater pumping station in the community with Lviv’s treatment facilities.
