Ukrainian mining and metals group Metinvest has expanded its industrial assets by acquiring a pipe manufacturing plant in Iași, Romania. The facility produces welded structural pipes used in construction, engineering, infrastructure, and agriculture.
The newly acquired ArcelorMittal Tubular Products Iași plant has an annual production capacity of 240,000 tons. This strategic move will allow Metinvest to fully utilize the capabilities of its Ukrainian steel plant, Zaporizhstal, which manufactures hot-rolled coils — the main raw material for pipe production.
Key points of the acquisition:
- The distance between Zaporizhstal and the Iași plant is only 600 km.
- Metinvest plans to supply around 180,000 tons of raw material annually to Romania.
- The plant is equipped with five pipe mills, two longitudinal slitting lines, and two coating lines.
- Integration of the Iași plant into Metinvest’s supply chain is planned for 2026.
This acquisition strengthens Metinvest’s position in the European steel market and enhances its production presence within the EU.
