Customs Officers Halt Illegal Import of Goods Worth Half a Million

Customs officers have stopped an attempt to illegally import goods worth over half a million hryvnias.

On October 12, a minibus MERCEDES-BENZ SPRINTER driven by a 38-year-old resident of Ivano-Frankivsk arrived at the checkpoint ‘Krakivets – Korczowa’. The driver chose the simplified customs control lane ‘green corridor’, however, during inspection, customs officials discovered 102 body scrubs RITUALS with a total value of approximately 100 thousand hryvnias.

The day before, at the ‘Rava-Ruska – Hrebenne’ checkpoint, during the inspection of a minibus driven by a 38-year-old resident of Ivano-Frankivsk, 208 pieces of new women’s clothing worth 240 thousand hryvnias were found in suitcases. For both cases, customs officers compiled protocols on violations of customs regulations under part 2 of article 471 of the Customs Code of Ukraine.

Also, at the checkpoint ‘Shehyni – Medyka’, 480 packages of Swedish tobacco products without excise stamps worth about 125 thousand hryvnias were found using X-ray scanning in a minibus MERCEDES-BENZ SPRINTER, driven by a 37-year-old resident of Lviv. The woman concealed them among personal belongings. For this fact, a protocol was drawn up on violation of customs regulations under part 3 of article 471 of the Customs Code of Ukraine, and a notification was sent to law enforcement agencies, as the actions show signs of a crime under article 204 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

In addition, at the ‘Krakivets – Korczowa’ checkpoint, customs officers discovered 806 packs of cigarettes PARAMOUNT and P&S valued at about 60 thousand hryvnias. As a result of the inspection, a protocol was drawn up on violation of customs regulations under article 483 of the Customs Code of Ukraine.
