Traffic management changes at the Kozelnytska – Ivana Franka roundabout in Lviv

In Lviv, at the roundabout at the junction of Kozelnytska Street and Ivana Franka Street, a new traffic management arrangement is being introduced and the public transport stop in the direction of Ivana Franka Street is being modernised. The works are being carried out at the request of the Sykhiv District Administration with co-financing from the Ukrainian Catholic University. The new traffic scheme is due to come into operation from Thursday, 27 August.

The Sykhiv District Administration reported that new road signs are being installed at the roundabout, and at night road workers are applying updated road markings. Previously, vehicles travelling from Ivana Franka Street towards Kozelnytska Street or Panasa Myrnoho Street were forced to enter the roundabout, which complicated traffic and increased the number of manoeuvres for drivers.

Once the new scheme is implemented, vehicles will be able to cross the junction without entering the roundabout. The roundabout itself will be retained, but it will be used mainly for access to the car park and for turning vehicles around.

«Accordingly, the new traffic management arrangement is intended to make the route layout simpler and clearer for drivers, improve road safety on this section, and also enhance conditions for public transport and passenger comfort», the Sykhiv District Administration notes.

In addition to the change in the traffic scheme, the public transport stop in the direction of Ivana Franka Street has already been moved a few metres back. Work is currently under way to equip it in line with accessibility requirements. It is planned to lower kerbs at pedestrian crossings and to install a raised boarding platform to make it easier for people who use wheelchairs, parents with pushchairs and other residents with limited mobility to use public transport.

The decision to change the traffic management arrangement at the Kozelnytska – Ivana Franka roundabout has been approved by the Patrol Police of Lviv Region.
