An agreement on Ukraine’s participation in the EU4HEALTH European program was signed in Lviv Oblast

The agreement was signed by the European Commissioner for Health Protection Stella Kyriakides and the Minister of Health Protection of Ukraine Viktor Lyashko

The signing took place today, July 15, at the base of the First Territorial Medical Association of Lviv.

Thanks to this agreement, Ukraine will be able to receive health care funding from the European Union, provided for within the EU4HEALTH project.

“The incredible brutality with which Russia invaded Ukraine continues to shock us. I am here to show that the European Union will continue to support your country in all possible ways for as long as it takes. What I saw today in the health facilities of the Lviv Oblast really impressed me. First of all, it is the dedication and sacrifice of the entire medical staff. Your health care system, doctors, medical staff, patients are all under incredible pressure since the outbreak of full-scale war. Thanks to this agreement, we want Ukraine to get access to funding from the EU as soon as possible,” said Stella Kyriakides.

According to Mrs. European Commissioner, the EU will continue to support Ukraine in terms of prosthetics and rehabilitation of victims, technical support of medical facilities. It will also help people who left Ukraine to cope with psychological trauma.

As it became known, the agreement gives the Minister of Health of Ukraine the opportunity to conduct discussions at the political level with the Ministers of Health of the European Union countries.

“Today in Lviv, we visited three hospitals that have received the largest number of patients from the entire country since the beginning of the full-scale war. At the same time, these facilities help us, the Ministry, to refer patients, both adults and children, to European clinics for various types of rehabilitation. Apparently, today is a historic event for the entire healthcare sector of Ukraine – the signed agreement that allows our system to integrate into the European space. Europe once again shows that it considers Ukraine a part of its community. And we will try to use this opportunity with benefit for the further development of medicine, transplantation, for the introduction of innovations in the health care system, scientific developments, investments in the field of production of medical devices. We want new reconstructive surgery and rehabilitation centers to appear in Ukraine to help all those affected by the terrorist country,” said Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko.

The document enters into force from the moment of its signing.
