Construction of the Second Euro-Gauge Railway Commences in Lviv Region

The construction of the second Euro-gauge railway in Ukraine has commenced in the Lviv region.

Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kuleba and Director of the European Commission for Transport Magda Kopczynska have launched the construction of a railway of European standards in our region. The new railway will extend from the Polish border to Sknyliv. The European Commission has already allocated 73.5 million euros in grant funds for the implementation of this project.

This is not only a large-scale infrastructure project. It is a step towards Ukraine’s full integration into the European space, strengthening the economy, security, and connections between our countries. Every kilometer of the Euro-gauge railway is another argument that Ukraine belongs to Europe not only in values but also infrastructurally. The construction is expected to be completed by 2027.

This will be the second Euro-gauge railway in Ukraine. The first modern Euro-gauge railway Chop – Uzhgorod, recently opened with the participation of the President, already transports passengers to Bratislava, Košice, Budapest, and Vienna. Our region has always been considered the gateway of Ukraine to Europe. Now, it will be literally.
