In the first half of this year, more than 500,000 square metres of new housing were brought into use in Lviv region. This is 5.2% more than in the same period last year, placing the region second in Ukraine by volume of newly commissioned housing.
The state and prospects of the region’s construction sector are being discussed at the Lviv Build Forum, which has brought together more than 1,000 participants: developers, construction companies, investors, architects, designers and representatives of public authorities.
Due to the full-scale war, Lviv region has received a significant number of internally displaced people and relocated businesses from other regions. This has increased the pressure on transport, social and engineering infrastructure. Therefore, as forum participants emphasise, it is important not only to increase the volume of housing construction, but also to plan territorial development in a comprehensive way – ensuring that roads, public transport, schools, medical facilities, essential services and utilities are provided alongside housing.
The need to create inclusive and safe spaces that take into account the needs of all residents, including people with disabilities and families with children, is highlighted separately.
Today, the construction sector in Lviv region comprises more than 2,200 active enterprises and over 22,400 employees. Compared with 2021, the number of people employed in the sector has grown by 8%, while tax revenues have increased 2.3 times to 4.5 billion UAH.
At the same time, according to participants of the Lviv Build Forum, investment alone is not enough for the market’s further development. Changes are needed to the rules under which the sector operates, particularly at the legislative level. Businesses, communities, the expert community, parliament and the executive authorities must jointly identify the barriers holding back development and initiate the updating of the necessary regulations.
Lviv region declares its interest in companies that are ready to invest transparently, create jobs and channel resources into community development. The organiser of the Lviv Build Forum is FORMA Events.
We must build for people!
