In Lviv, on Naukovа Street, ahead of the start of the new heating season, a large-scale replacement will be carried out on one of the city’s most problematic heating networks. The plan is to renew over 1,000 metres of large-diameter pipelines, which means residents of the surrounding buildings will be temporarily left without hot water.
According to Lvivteploenergo Municipal Utility Company, the heating network running along Naukovа Street near the junctions with Stryiska Street and Ivana Puliuia Street was laid back in 1973. It has been in operation for more than half a century and has significantly deteriorated during this time, with ruptures being recorded regularly in recent years. During this year’s hydraulic tests, numerous defects were found on the section, including five locations in a critical condition.
Repair works will begin on 29 July and continue until 29 August. They will be carried out simultaneously on several sections of the heating network. Due to the significant depth of the pipes and the fact that the network runs under the carriageway, the package of works is expected to take roughly a month. Utility workers do not rule out temporary traffic restrictions near excavation sites and promise to provide additional information about them.
For the duration of the network replacement, hot water supply will be cut off to buildings at the following addresses:
- Kniahyni Olhy Street: 69, 71, 73, 75, 77;
- Kulparkivska Street: 133, 135, 139, 141, 143, 145, 147;
- Naukova Street: 2, 4, 4a, 6, 6a, 8, 9, 10, 10a, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 26, 28, 28a, 29, 30, 31, 33, 34, 37, 39, 41, 43, 44, 46, 48, 49, 50, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56, 57, 58, 59, 61, 62, 64, 66, 68, 74, 76, 82, 86, 94, 96, 100, 102, 104, 106, 110, 112, 114, 116;
- Ivana Puliuia Street: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 15, 17, 18, 19, 21, 23, 25, 29, 32, 38;
- Vasylia Symonenka Street: 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 18, 20, 22;
- Troleibusna Street: 10, 12, 14.
Lvivteploenergo stresses that replacing the network now will make it possible to avoid serious breakdowns in the winter period, when repair work is much more difficult and hundreds of flats could be left without heating. The company asks residents to be understanding about the temporary inconvenience, as the infrastructure renewal should ensure more reliable heating for the district in winter.
This year, Lvivteploenergo Municipal Utility Company plans to replace around 15 km of heating networks in total. The company has more than 560 km of heating mains on its books, of which approximately 70% have already exceeded their standard service life and require phased modernisation.
