At the Kovcha–Shevchenka junction in Lviv, traffic towards the centre will be narrowed from 10 July

In Lviv, from Friday, 10 July, temporary traffic restrictions will be introduced at the junction of Kovcha and Shevchenka streets. Due to the construction of a new overpass, one of the two lanes towards the city centre will be closed over a stretch of about 60 metres. This was reported by LKP «Lvivavtodor».

The restrictions are linked to the start of a new phase of works on the Kovcha Street side. A construction site is being set up here, the slope will be reinforced, and drilling and installation of bored piles for a future bridge support will be carried out. Within the construction site, the right-hand lane towards the centre will be closed, while the left-hand lane in this direction will remain open.

For the duration of the works, the public transport stop on Kovcha Street in the direction of the centre will be moved approximately 30 metres towards Vynnytsia Street, in front of the construction site. Additional pedestrian crossings have also been installed on Kovcha and Shevchenka streets. The temporary traffic management scheme will remain in place until the overpass construction is completed.

LKP «Lvivavtodor» is urging drivers and pedestrians to be attentive, comply with temporary road signs and take the changes in traffic organisation into account.

Preparatory works for the construction of the parallel overpass on Kovcha Street began in March. On the Shevchenka Street side, the installation of bored piles and concrete structures required for mounting the bridge beams has already been completed. The next phase is being carried out from the Kovcha Street side.

The new overpass will have three traffic lanes, cycling and pedestrian infrastructure, and traffic light control. It is intended to improve transport links between the Riasne neighbourhood and the centre of Lviv and to make it possible to reconstruct the existing unsafe bridge.

The construction is being carried out by TzOV «Onur». The works are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026. The project cost is 106.8 million UAH. It is financed with loan funds, as the city budget resources are being directed to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
