The regional commission allocated half a million hryvnias to support organizations of people with visual and hearing disabilities and veterans of the OUN-UPA

During the meeting of the commission, NGOs presented their competitive proposals regarding areas of activity that require funding.

Today, June 20, a meeting of the regional commission for the selection of social associations of veterans and persons with disabilities, which have a social focus, and which will be provided with financial support from the regional budget in 2023, was held.

The commission reviewed and approved funding for three regional public associations that met all the requirements of the competition and were allowed to defend their applications:

Lviv Regional Organization of the All-Ukrainian Organization of the Disabled “Ukrainian Society of the Blind” (UTOS) – UAH 212.5 thousand;
Lviv regional organization of the Ukrainian Society of the Deaf (UTOG) – UAH 212.5 thousand;
Lviv Regional Brotherhood of Veterans of the National Liberation Struggle (Lviv OUN-UPA Brotherhood) – UAH 75,000.

“The position of the leadership of the regional administration is unequivocal – we support the activities of socially oriented organizations that take care of people with disabilities and the elderly. The applications presented today were analyzed by members of the commission, which includes representatives of public organizations, trade unions, structural subdivisions of LOVA, and the deputy corps of the regional council. I would like to note that the organization will be able to use the allocated funds only to pay future expenses, not to pay off debts, and only within the limits of the declared directions.

We draw attention to the importance of highlighting your activities in social networks, which will allow more people to learn about your organizations and support events or other projects, as well as the possibility of attracting foreign grants. We also call on local self-government bodies to support the association, whose activities have a unique focus,” emphasized the head of the commission, deputy head of the Lviv OVA, Ivan Sobko.

During the meeting of the commission, the representatives of NGOs presented their competitive proposals regarding areas of activity that require funding.

In particular, Lyubov Kukuruza, head of the UTOS LOO, noted that the organization has almost 1,700 members. There are 6 UTOS centers operating in Lviv Region. The main part of the funds allocated from the regional budget will be directed to the organization of the author’s song festival, conducting psychological meetings and paying for communal services.

As for the Lviv regional organization of UTOG, more than 1,800 people with hearing disabilities are members of the association, and in total there are three UTOG branches in the region. The head of the regional UTOG, Volodymyr Baltyga, said that the organization for people with disabilities conducts training in sign language to use it in everyday life (during visits to hospitals, social welfare institutions, during employment), provides psychological counseling and support. Funding from the regional budget will be directed to the technical support of sign language training and the payment of utility services.

The third organization that received funding according to the commission’s decision is the Lviv OUN-UPA Brotherhood. According to the head of the brotherhood, Volodymyr Parubiy, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, all members of the brotherhood have been involved in volunteering – organizing fundraisers for the Armed Forces, helping individual combat units. Funding allocated from the regional budget in the amount of UAH 75,000 will be directed mainly to the payment of communal services. We will remind that the brotherhood was created in 1991 to protect and restore the violated rights of members of the national liberation struggle and their families, to provide them with comprehensive assistance, and to educate the younger generation patriotically.
