Preparations are under way in Drohobych for the start of the full heating season. According to the city authorities, at present heat is being supplied only from solid-fuel boiler houses, while gas-fired boiler houses have not yet been brought online.
Air temperatures are gradually falling and, according to forecasts, by the end of the week the average daily readings are expected to reach around 8 degrees above zero. This is the level recommended by the government as a benchmark for the start of the heating period.
This year, in line with government recommendations, municipal utilities are being strongly advised to follow the established procedure for switching on the heating and not to use natural gas ahead of time. Therefore, despite the preparatory work carried out by the municipal enterprise “Drohobychteploenergo”, the supply of gas to the boiler houses has not yet begun.
At present, only those institutions and educational establishments connected to solid-fuel boiler houses are receiving heat. Particular emphasis has been placed on ensuring that schools and nursery schools which can be heated with alternative types of fuel are kept warm.
The full launch of the heating season in the city is planned to begin no earlier than the end of the week, once temperature readings meet the government’s requirements. The city council notes that further changes and the phased connection of boiler houses will be reported separately.
