Concrete bearing prepared for overpass to Riasne in Lviv

Construction of a new overpass at the junction of Tarasa Shevchenka Street and Omelyana Kovcha Street is under way in Lviv. The project is intended to improve connections between the Riasne neighbourhood and the city centre. The contractor has now begun preparations for concreting a special bearing to which the bridge beams will be fixed.

According to LKP «Lvivavtodor», the main works are currently being carried out from the side of Shevchenka Street. Here, the slope has already been reinforced with a sheet pile retaining wall and 5 bored cast-in-place piles have been installed. The next stage is to prepare the base for the concrete bearing that will tie these piles into a single structure.

The bridge beams will subsequently be installed on this concrete bearing. This design is intended to ensure the required horizontal level of the future overpass and the reliable fixing of its elements.

«Next week we will start installing the reinforcement cage and concreting the bearing. It is on this structure that the beams of the future overpass will later be installed,» said the director of LKP «Lvivavtodor» Mykola Vlasiuk.

The new overpass will have three traffic lanes, a combined cycling and pedestrian zone, and traffic light control. The city council stresses that the implementation of the project should ease heavy traffic on Shevchenka Street and create the conditions for the subsequent reconstruction of the existing unsafe bridge.

The contractor has already completed the main preparatory works on the construction site, reinforced the slope with a sheet pile retaining wall from the side of Shevchenka Street and installed 5 bored cast-in-place piles, on which the support for the future bridge will be formed.

The construction period for the new overpass on Kovcha Street is 11 months, although the project is expected to be completed by the end of this year. The construction cost is UAH 106.8 million. The bridge is being built with the involvement of loan funds, as the city budget is mainly directed towards supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
