Since the beginning of 2026, the Transport Department of the Lviv City Council has tightened control over the operation of public transport in Lviv. For failure to comply with the terms of contracts by carriers, penalty sanctions totalling 1,198,500 hryvnias have been imposed. This was reported by the Lviv City Council.
Since the start of the year, specialists of the Lviv City Council’s Transport Department have drawn up 705 reports on violations. The most frequent issue recorded was a shortage of buses on routes: for failure to deploy or under-deployment of vehicles, 496 reports were issued amounting to UAH 843,200, which accounts for over 70% of all cases.
A further 80 reports totalling UAH 136,000 were issued due to unsatisfactory sanitary conditions in bus interiors. For faulty air-conditioning systems during the warm season, 59 reports were drawn up for a total of UAH 100,300.
A separate area of control concerns the safe boarding and alighting of passengers. Since the end of July, inspectors have been checking how drivers approach bus stops. For failing to pull up to the kerb, 70 reports were issued amounting to UAH 119,000. The department stresses that buses must pull up as close as possible to the pavement to ensure convenience and safety for older people, passengers with children and persons with disabilities.

The City Council adds that the funds from fines are paid into the city budget. Every day, more than 500 public transport vehicles operate on routes in Lviv, and around 78% of city buses and trolleybuses are accessible to passengers with reduced mobility.
