Since the beginning of 2026, the Transport Department of the Lviv City Council has tightened control over the operation of public transport in Lviv. During this period, 930 reports were issued against carriers for breaches of contract terms, and the total amount of penalties reached UAH 1,581,000.
Specialists from the Transport Department constantly monitor the operation of buses: they check the number of vehicles on routes, their sanitary condition, as well as how drivers approach public transport stops.
In October alone, 124 violations were recorded in the Lviv community. The most frequent issue was non-compliance with requirements for pulling up to stops — 70 such cases were documented. A further 39 reports were issued for failure to deploy or under-deployment of buses on routes, and 15 for unsatisfactory sanitary conditions in the passenger compartments.
The Transport Department emphasises that systematic monitoring of compliance with contract terms makes it possible to identify problems in the work of carriers and oblige them to remedy shortcomings. The purpose of the inspections is to ensure a sufficient number of vehicles in service, proper cleanliness in the passenger compartments and quality service for passengers.
The funds paid by carriers in the form of fines are transferred to the city budget. In total, more than 500 units of public transport operate on routes in the Lviv community every day, and over 80% of city buses and trolleybuses are fully accessible to passengers with reduced mobility.
