Lviv approves restoration of listed building on Hnatyuka Street

The Lviv City Council has granted permission for the restoration of an architectural monument of local significance at 20–22 Akademika V. Hnatyuka Street in Lviv. After renovation, the premises on the ground floor are to be converted into a bookshop, a reading room and an arts space.

By decision of the session, councillors approved restoration works for LLC “Lviv Media Forum Publishing House”. Thirty-six deputies voted in favour of the resolution. It concerns the former railway ticket offices in a building with large display windows and central wooden doors decorated with stone elements, whose façade is currently partly covered with yellow graffiti. The building has the status of an architectural monument of local significance with protection number 4265-Лв.

The investor has received permission from the City Council to carry out restoration with the adaptation of the non-residential ground-floor premises into a multifunctional public space in accordance with the investment agreement. This involves, in particular, the creation of a modern bookshop, a reading area and a venue for artistic events.

During consideration of the matter, the head of the legal department of Lviv City Council, Helena Paionkevych, stressed that the resolution does not change the form of ownership of the premises: title remains with the Lviv City Territorial Community, and the property itself is not subject to privatisation.
