Carriageway to be widened at the junction of Chornovola Avenue and 700th Anniversary Square in Lviv

From 19 October, work will begin in Lviv to widen the carriageway at the junction of Chornovola Avenue and 700th Anniversary of Lviv Square, near the Forum shopping centre. This is intended to ensure that large buses can turn safely without mounting the pavement.

The Halytskyi District Administration explained that after large buses were introduced on routes No. 20 and No. 48, they partially drive onto the pavement when turning from Chornovola Avenue onto 700th Anniversary of Lviv Square, creating risks for pedestrians. The city’s traffic safety commission has approved widening the carriageway and a corresponding narrowing of the pavement in order to bring the junction’s geometry into line with regulatory requirements.

“Since the buses are large, when turning from Chornovola Avenue onto 700th Anniversary of Lviv Square they drive onto the pavement. This creates inconvenience and danger for pedestrians. Therefore, the city’s traffic safety commission has approved widening the carriageway and a corresponding narrowing of the pavement on this section, in order to bring its parameters into line with regulatory requirements,” the Halytskyi District Administration explained.

For the duration of the works, the route pattern for buses No. 20 and No. 48 will change. According to the Lviv City Council’s transport department, towards Bus Station No. 2 they will run along B. Khmelnytskoho Street, without entering Chornovola Avenue. In this direction, the “Staryi Rynok Square” stop is provided.

In the opposite direction, bus movements will remain unchanged. If weather conditions are favourable, the works are expected to be completed within a week, approximately by 26 October.
