Truskavets has completed a project to modernise its water supply facilities, under which new energy-efficient pumps and modern control systems have been installed at the town’s pumping stations. The upgrade was made possible with the support of the NAKOPA programme and the partner town of Wattlingen (Federal Republic of Germany), with co-financing from the municipal budget.
On 11 September, the Mayor of Truskavets, Andriy Kulchynskyi, and the Director of Truskavets Vodokanal LLC, Roman Buchkovych, inspected the upgraded facilities of the utility, including the water booster pumping stations and the clean water reservoir. According to calculations, the new equipment will reduce electricity consumption at these facilities by more than half. Additional resilience of the system is provided by the solar power plants already in place.
The new sensors and frequency converters make it possible to flexibly adjust water supply volumes depending on consumer demand, which also reduces electricity consumption and improves the reliability of the networks. The modernisation covered the Kolyba pumping station, as well as the first and second lift pumping stations.
The total cost of the project was 250 thousand euros. Of this amount, 25 thousand euros was financed from the Truskavets budget (10% co-financing), with the remaining funds provided as a grant by the NAKOPA programme and the Wattlingen municipality.
As part of the project, the following were purchased and installed:
- a control panel for two UZS 9.05/2*22 kW pumps with a frequency converter to improve the efficiency of the pumping station;
- a vertical multistage centrifugal pump unit MVL.200-400.A.1100 with a 90 kW motor and a UZS.9.10/90 kW control panel based on a 90 kW Danfoss frequency converter;
- a modern single-stage horizontal overhung centrifugal pump unit NHVf.150-400A-4p.1100 with a 90 kW motor;
- a UZS.9.06/90 kW pump control panel with a frequency converter to ensure stable operation of the second lift pumping station;
- shut-off valves, pipelines, cable and wiring products and other materials for connecting the pumps and automation systems;
- a Primayer Enigma leak detector, an RD8100 cable and pipe locator and a BOSCH GLM 120 C laser rangefinder for more effective leak detection and inspection of water supply networks;
- two MVLe.150-250.A.1100 pump units with 22 kW motors to renew the pump fleet;
- two Gamma XL dosing pumps, a DDC 15-4 AR-PVC/V/C-F-32 U2U2FG dosing pump, and work was carried out to restore the sodium hypochlorite dosing system with replacement of worn materials.
In addition to the technical component, the project included audit support, translation services and organisational activities required for its implementation.
The initiative “Modernisation, cost reduction, environmental protection and elimination of losses in the water supply system of the town and region of Truskavets” (NAKOPA 103721) was implemented by Truskavets City Council in partnership with the Wattlingen municipality under the NAKOPA – Nachhaltige Kommunalentwicklung durch Partnerschaftsprojekte programme. The programme is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany (BMZ) through the organisation Engagement Global.
The project was aimed at modernising the centralised water supply facilities of the Truskavets municipal territorial community, improving the energy efficiency of production processes, reducing losses of drinking water, enhancing environmental safety and ensuring a stable and high-quality water supply for the population. The prerequisites for its implementation were the significant wear and tear of certain elements of the water supply system, high operating costs and the need to introduce technologies that meet European standards of efficiency, reliability and environmental responsibility.
During implementation, a range of technical, organisational and information measures was carried out: pumping stations were modernised, modern pumping equipment and automated control systems were commissioned, the reagent dosing system for drinking water disinfection was upgraded, installation and commissioning of equipment were carried out, and information and awareness-raising activities for residents were organised.
An additional outcome of the project was the deepening of international municipal partnership. Cooperation between Truskavets City Council and the Wattlingen municipality made it possible to exchange experience in the management of water supply and sewerage services and strengthened ties between communities in Ukraine and Germany.
Truskavets City Council, Mayor Andriy Kulchynskyi, Truskavets Vodokanal LLC and the Director of the utility, Roman Buchkovych, publicly thanked the people and government of Germany, their partners from Engagement Global and NAKOPA, the Wattlingen community and its head, Claudia Sommer, as well as Roland Danner and everyone who contributed to the implementation of the project and to strengthening Truskavets’ energy resilience on the eve of the autumn-winter period.
