Veterans of the Russian-Ukrainian war can acquire new professions for free in the Lviv region

This is one of the directions of the Concept of Support for Defenders, which was developed in Lviv OVA.

“I was in the army three times. Which one can I tell you about?” – jokes 31-year-old Volodymyr.

In 2012, after graduating from the Interregional Higher Vocational School of Motor Transport and Construction, where the boy acquired the profession of mechanic in car repair, he was called up for conscription.

After the service, not even having time to work for half a year, in 2014 he received a summons and joined the ranks of the Armed Forces to defend the Motherland. He spent a whole year in the war zone. After returning, he got a job and lived a civilian life until February 24, 2022.

And on the first day of the full-scale invasion, together with a friend, he went to the territorial center of recruitment and social support and went to the East of Ukraine in the ranks of the 80th separate airborne assault brigade.

On July 15, 2022, near the village of Spirne, Volodymyr was seriously wounded in the leg. An enemy projectile completely shattered the base of the joint. Until January 2023, the veteran was treated and rehabilitated at the Uzhhorod City Hospital.

The boy still has health problems, undergoes regular treatment, it is difficult for him to stand and walk, and not all hospitals can perform the operation that is desperately needed. At the time of filming, the veteran received information that one clinic agreed to perform an operation on him.

During the treatment, the veteran learned that within the framework of the Support Concept for Defenders and Defenders, which was worked out in the Lviv OVA, combatants and their family members who have a disability as a result of the war can undergo free retraining in labor professions, advanced training or a professional adaptation program. All information is at the link.

Volodymyr decided to use this opportunity. He has already completed short-term courses and retrained – he acquired the specialty of electric welder at the VPU in which he previously studied. He says that such a specialty will help him be useful for the Armed Forces – he will make parts that will help protect both cars and the people in them.

“It is important for us that every resident of Lviv Oblast who went to war knows that after returning here, at home, he will have opportunities to recover, start his own business, acquire a new profession, practice sports or become an agent of positive changes in to their community. That is why we developed the concept of support for defenders in the Lviv region”, – emphasized the head of the Lviv OVA, Maksym Kozytskyi.
