A 14-year-old boy from Ukraine died on a railway track in western Poland while saving his 13-year-old girlfriend from an oncoming freight train. The tragedy happened on the night of September 5-6 in the town of Swazhendz near Poznań. The girl was hospitalized with severe injuries and the amputation of her arm, and the boy died.
According to the Polish mass media, around midnight, two teenagers who were on the railway track were hit by a freight train heading from Pruszków to Germany.
According to preliminary data, the girl ended up on the rails on the platform. A 14-year-old boy tried to help her and got hit by a train himself. As a result of his injuries, he died on the spot. The girl was taken to the hospital with serious injuries,” TVN quoted Poznan police as saying.
The tragedy happened several tens of kilometers from the place of residence of the teenagers. According to Wyborcza’s unofficial data, there were four teenagers at the station at the time of the accident. Each of them was from a different city. The 14-year-old boy who died was a citizen of Ukraine and lived in the town of Vrzesnia, about 40 km from Svajendzia. The 13-year-old girl, who was also injured, is a Pole from Slupsky District.
“According to the witnesses, two other teenagers who were also near the track, the girl sat on the rails in front of the freight train traveling from Pruskov to Germany. A 14-year-old boy wanted to save his girlfriend. Unfortunately, he died in the process,” a representative of the Wielkopolska Voivodeship police told Fakty.pl.
The injured girl was taken to a hospital in Poznań in extremely serious condition. Doctors are fighting for her life. Police are interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage.
