Mushroom boom – the story of a lost mushroom picker
On 30 September, at 19:13, rescuers received a report that a man born in 1953 had gotten lost in the forest near the town of Morshyn.
As it turned out, he and his son had gone mushroom picking, and they went to their respective mushroom spots in the forest.
Unfortunately, the old man did not have a telephone connection, so the son was unable to contact his father after leaving the forest.
Given the bad weather: cold and rain, rescuers from the Slavske Mountain Search and Rescue Group promptly went in search of the lost man with his son.
At 21:36, their efforts were crowned with success: the man was found. He was lying in a puddle, but he was conscious. Rescuers helped the man get out of the forest.
It turned out that the man had gathered a lot of mushrooms, but the main thing was that he was alive. But what he was most worried about was that his mushrooms, which he had collected so hard, would not be lost. “Don’t worry, we won’t take the mushrooms away!” the mountain rescuers reassured him, smiling sincerely.
The man was hospitalised at the Stryi Central District Hospital.
This story is an important reminder to be careful in the forest, especially during the autumn mushroom season. Rescuers urge: if you go outdoors, take a charged phone with you and be sure to tell your family where you are going. After all, safety comes first!
