The race took place in Stryi Park on 24 November and gathered two hundred people. The event was organised for the first time on the occasion of the Day of the Airborne Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on 21 November.
This was reported by the Department of Youth and Sports of the Lviv Regional State Administration
The race was organised by the Department of Youth and Sports of the Lviv Regional State Administration, the Lviv Regional Centre “Sport for All”, and the 80th separate airborne assault Galician brigade.
“This year’s season of open-air sporting events began with the soldiers of the legendary “eighty” and is coming to an end with them. In March, we climbed the highest peak in Ukraine together and raised more than 220 thousand hryvnias for a drone with a thermal imager for the soldiers who performed tasks in the most difficult area. And at the end of the year, we are running with the Steel Lions again in Stryi Park.
Our race is a sign of gratitude to each and every person who serves, and in memory of each and every person who gave their lives in the fight for our country,” says Roman Khimyak, head of the Youth and Sports Department of the Lviv Regional Military Administration.
The participants ran 5 kilometres, and some of them covered the distance by Nordic walking. Among the runners were also soldiers of the “eighties” and family members of the military.
The event raised funds for a DJI Mavic 3T drone with a thermal imager and its accessories. However, since we managed to raise more than planned – more than UAH 330 thousand – we purchased two such devices for the military.
