As of 08:00 on 8 August 2026, changes in water levels associated with intensive precipitation have been recorded on rivers in Lviv region. According to the hydrometeorological network, between 0.6 and 21 mm of rainfall was recorded in the region over the past 24 hours, in some places 27–45 mm, and locally up to 53–98 mm (in particular at the hydrological stations on the Dniester River in the city of Sambir, in Mostyska, and on the Vyshnia River near the village of Tvirzha).
As a result of the rainfall, daily rises in water levels of 1–28 cm were observed on rivers in the Sian and Dniester basins. On some sections of rivers in the Dniester basin on the evening of 7 August there were sharp, short-lived rises of 35–36 cm above the levels recorded at 08:00 on 7 August (in particular at the hydrological station on the Orava River near the hamlet of Sviatoslav and on the Strv’yazh River in the town of Khyriv).
On the lowland rivers of the Western Bug basin, minor fluctuations in water levels within 1–3 cm were recorded, with a downward trend. On the section of the Dniester River near the settlement of Rozdil, the water level remains below the minimum values for the entire period of observations.
The water temperature in the mountain rivers of the Dniester basin was 12–19°, and mostly 19–26° in other rivers of the region.
According to the hydrological guidance, in the next 24 hours a further fall in water levels is expected in the upper and middle reaches of rivers in the Dniester basin. In contrast, in the lower reaches of rivers in this basin, in the Dniester itself and on rivers in the Sian basin, a predominance of rising water levels is forecast (current warning on changes in the hydrological situation No. Hc-19 of 07.08.2026). On the lowland rivers of the Western Bug basin, minor fluctuations in levels are forecast, with a predominance of falling levels.
