A new memorial plaque has been unveiled on the facade of Varyazh School, alongside the one dedicated to the school’s alumnus and Hero of Ukraine, Dmytro Zhelizko. This plaque honors another alumnus, Hero of Ukraine Yuriy Tsonia, who gave his life in service to his country during the Russo-Ukrainian war.
The plaque was consecrated by Father Vasyl Horodetskyi. Among the speakers at the event were Lieutenant Colonel Mykhailo Kosaryev, Sokal Mayor Serhii Kasian, Village Elder Yuriy Horodko, and the school’s principal and member of the Sheptytskyi District Council, Yaroslav Havryliv.
Yuriy Tsonia’s wife, Liudmyla Tsonia, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to everyone who came to honor the memory of her husband, a son, father, grandfather, and a brave defender of Ukraine.
This plaque serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by Ukrainian soldiers in the fight against Russian aggression.
More photos from the event can be found in the printed issue of the newspaper Holos z-nad Buhu.
