The Boyko mushroom pickers’ meeting “Holiday of Silent Hunting” took place in Skole. From the very morning, groups of mushroom pickers with backpacks went to the surrounding forests to try their luck.
This was reported to Holos Sokalshchyny by the festival organisers.
Finding a giant mushroom in the forest is not an easy task. However, the competition featured several porcini mushrooms weighing more than a kilogram.
The nomination was won by Andrian Veklich from Skole, whose mushroom weighed 1 kg 400 grams. The contest organisers awarded him a basket of porcini mushrooms.
Two other participants received similar prizes. Oles Borovyk won the Most Beautiful Boletus nomination, as he managed to visit the forests of Urytsi on his way from Boryslav and collected several buckets of mushrooms.
He shared his impressions, books and made several reports. Ksenia Udovytska from Lviv won the Royal Mushroom nomination.
Ivan Vasyunyk from Dubyna and Anya Zinkevych from Skole received awards from the Myshenya store for the largest number of porcini mushrooms collected. Vladyslav Demian from Skole received a prize for the largest boletus mushrooms.
In addition to the competition, the guests had the opportunity to attend a theatrical tour “The Trails of the Gredl Barons” organised by the SkoleMandra team. Famous historical figures recreated important moments from the city’s history.
Mushroom expert Oles Borovyk and specialists from the Skole Beskydy National Park shared useful information about mushrooms and safety rules for hiking in the forest. Due to unfavourable weather conditions, the children’s meeting with animator Yelyzaveta Karnaukh had to be cancelled.
The holiday ended with a meal of mushroom soup prepared by chefs Uliana Trenych and Andriy Zubrytskyi. They cooked 100 litres of this delicious Boyko dish using 17 litres of dried mushrooms! Those who stayed behind tasted the fried mushrooms on a pancake, which delighted the guests.
The holiday was organised with the support of sponsors, including Vasyl Romanchuk, Ruslan Dril, Olga and Igor Onulyaki, Mikhail Rorat, Vitaly Trenich, Oleg Dulya and many others. Special thanks to the active team members for their help in organising the event.
The event was held under the patronage of the Skole City Council, and the charitable funds raised during the event in the amount of UAH 6,170 were donated to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
