Lviv Region Commemorates 116th Anniversary of Stepan Bandera’s Birth

On January 1, the first day of the new year, the Lviv region held ceremonies to mark the 116th anniversary of the birth of Stepan Bandera, a prominent leader of the Ukrainian national movement, head of the OUN, and Hero of Ukraine.

At the monument in Lviv, veterans of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, government officials, the public, and Andriy Hodyk, the First Deputy Head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, paid tribute to Stepan Bandera. Participants laid flowers at the base of the monument, joined in a collective prayer for Ukraine, and sang patriotic songs, emphasizing his crucial role in Ukraine’s fight for independence.

The event also included the recognition of recipients of the Hero of Ukraine Stepan Bandera Award, an important tradition that preserves national memory and honors the contributions of prominent Ukrainian figures.

Stepan Bandera’s words resonate strongly even today:
“The time will come when one will say: ‘Glory to Ukraine!’ and millions will respond: ‘Glory to the heroes!'”

In Sokal and other parts of the Lviv region, additional events were held to honor the 116th anniversary of this outstanding political figure and ideologist of the Ukrainian national movement.
