
Water levels on the rivers of the Lviv region are rising due to the thaw.
According to the hydro-meteorological network data, between 0.3 and 5 mm of precipitation was recorded in the Lviv region over the past day. As of 08:00 on February 8, the snow cover height at meteorological stations in Lviv stands at 8 – 15 cm, in some places up to 20 cm, in Lviv city – 14 cm, and in the mountainous area of the region 1 – 8 cm.
Over the past day, due to the thaw, the rivers in the Dniester basin saw a gradual increase in water levels by 2 – 18 cm, and in some areas 23 – 34 cm. On the flat rivers of the Sian and Western Bug basins, there was a slight water level increase of up to +6 cm.
Due to the thaw, a weakening and breaking of the ice cover was observed on the rivers in the Dniester basin. On the flat rivers of the region, the ice cover persisted in some places, with ice phenomena like ice edges.
In the next day, on the mountainous tributaries of the Dniester, a decrease in water levels is expected to prevail, while in the middle and lower reaches of the Stryi, Opir rivers, and in the Dniester, a small runoff wave from the upper reaches is anticipated. In the flat rivers of the Sian, Western Bug basins and in the upper reaches of the Styr, the slight rise in water levels will continue.
As of 08:00 on February 8, in the mountains of the Lviv region, the snow cover height at M Turka and M Slavsko was 1 – 8 cm.
