The rivers in Lviv region are experiencing rising water levels due to the thaw and snowmelt.
According to the hydrometeorological network, up to 3 mm of precipitation fell in the Lviv region over the past day. This led to an increase in water levels in the Dniester basin rivers by 1 – 21 cm, in some places up to 24 – 26 cm. On the flat rivers of the San, Western Bug basins, and the upper reaches of the Styr, a slight increase in water levels up to 5 cm per day was observed.
Ice phenomena are gradually weakening, on certain sections of rivers with ice cover, water on ice and ice movement are noted. Some rivers have already cleared of ice.
The next day, a decrease in water levels is expected on the mountain tributaries of the Dniester. In the middle and lower courses of the rivers Stryi, Opir, Svich, and in the Dniester, a small wave from the upper reaches is expected to arrive, with a rise in water levels by 0.2 – 0.5 m. Slight water level increases will continue on the flat rivers of the San, Western Bug basins, and in the upper reaches of the Styr.
As of 08:00 on January 28, the snow cover height in the mountains of Lviv region at Mt. Turka and Mt. Slavske was 6 – 15 cm. There is a warning about avalanche danger.
