New centers of growth of Heifel’s red book saffron were found in the Chervonohrad district

New cells were found in the Chervonohrad district during several days of scientific surveys.

In March, a several-day scientific survey took place on the territory of the “Lviv Forestry” branch of the State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine” in the Chervonograd district near the village of Rokytna. Volitsa (Dvirtsivska), village Butyny et al. Kulychkiv

As a result, three new centers of growth of the relict Maalopolis population of Heifel’s saffron, listed in the Red Book of Ukraine, were found there. The total area is more than 100 hectares.

Important: A new record was set in the Lviv region: the country’s largest linden avenue was planted in the region

Scientists of the Ivan Franko National Forestry University and LNU found out that the Maalopolis population of Heifel’s saffron is located in a curtained manner on an area of approximately 2,000 hectares within the six forestry divisions of the Lviv Forestry branch of the State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine”.

“As of today, the population needs more detailed surveys, detailed mapping and urgent implementation of measures to limit forest cutting in order to protect and preserve the species. After all, continuous felling of the main use and continuous sanitary felling of the forest have a very negative effect on the plant population, lead to a change in lighting conditions and their destruction”, – said Andriy Senyuk, head of the natural resources protection department of the department of ecology and natural resources of the Lviv OVA.

The reserve was created to preserve the unique habitats of the species listed in the Red Book, which has been preserved in these places since the time of the historical reconstruction of the flora within the four contours of the forest areas of the Reklynetsk Forestry of the Sokalsky DLHP “Galsillis”.

The scientific survey was conducted by: Andrii Senyuk – Head of the Natural Resources Protection Department of the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Lviv Regional State Administration together with Lidia Tasienkevych – Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor, Scientific Curator of the Herbarium of Ivan Franko Lviv National University.
