Thanks to the change in traffic signal control and the introduction of a “smart intersection,” the efficiency of using the green traffic signal at Pasichna-Pyrohivka Street in certain directions has increased by 45%.
And the total number of vehicles passing this intersection during peak hours has increased by an average of 25%. This was reported by Lvivavtodor.
As a reminder, Lvivavtodor specialists have recently programmed a new traffic signal control mode called “smart intersection” at this section. This is an intelligent system where the duration of the green signal for each direction is adjusted according to the need, taking into account the traffic flow in each lane, the distance between cars, traffic delays, etc. In addition, the most effective green signal duration for the next traffic light cycle is calculated and proposed every minute.
“This is the first such ‘smart intersection’ not only in Lviv but also in Ukraine. No one has done this before. We already have the first results on the effectiveness of such a change in traffic light regulation. According to the data from the installed video detectors, the total capacity of the Pasichna-Pyrohivka intersection has increased by up to 25%. The next step is to introduce a smart intersection mode at Zelena – Vulecka streets,” said Mykola Vlasiuk, director of Lvivavtodor.
It should be added that specialists from the transport planning, modeling and traffic management department of Lvivavtodor are already working on the launch of the smart intersection at Zelena – Vulecka streets.
