Today, the transfer of humanitarian aid from Polish and American benefactors to children’s homes in the Lviv region took place under the building of Lviv OVA.
The Rotary Clubs of Poland and the USA donated about 18 tons of food products (breakfasts, cereals, canned goods, canned vegetables), 1,300 St. Nicholas packages for children from orphanages, 1,000 sleeping bags and 22 electric generators.
“I sincerely thank the association of Rotary clubs of the USA and Poland for the help we received today. More than 30 cars have almost two dozen tons of food, warm things and gifts for St. Nicholas Day. Children deprived of parental care will be able to get the feeling of Christmas despite all the challenges. I thank our foreign partners for this initiative and I hope to continue our cooperation,” said Andriy Godyk, the first deputy head of Lviv OVA.
Piotr Jankowski, the governor of the district 2231 of the Rotary Club of Poland, said that in total there are 80 such clubs in the country and they have almost two thousand members.
“We cannot calmly accept what is happening in Ukraine, so we really want to help all Ukrainians, and first of all children and women. Here in Poland, the situation is radically different, so we want to give part of the warmth of our homes to the children of Ukraine, who need it the most. All members of our clubs are as consolidated as possible to further help Ukraine and Ukrainians in the fight against the enemy,” Piotr Jankowski emphasized.
Alex Ray, a member of one of the Rotary clubs of the USA, noted that Rotary clubs from all over the world have been helping Ukraine since the beginning of the war.
“Our club comes from a small town, but thanks to cooperation with other clubs, we reached out to our Polish colleagues, with whom we managed to organize it on a much larger scale. We came to Ukraine for the first time in April to understand exactly what the residents need and how exactly we can help. The main need at first was food, but over time the needs began to grow and our company and friends managed to collect funds in New Hampshire, which we transferred to our colleagues from the Polish Rotary Club. They, in turn, bought everything we needed, which we managed to bring today. We will continue to hold similar meetings to support the children of Ukraine,” added Alex Ray.
