In Lviv, the police detained a “pickpocket” thief who “worked” in public transport

The law enforcement officers remind once again that in the conditions of martial law, the maximum punishments are provided for committing theft, robbery, robbery, extortion, as well as for misappropriation, waste of property or possession of it by abuse of official position.

As the employees of police department No. 1 of Lviv district administration No. 2 established, on October 6, around 6:45 p.m., while traveling in a shuttle taxi, a 41-year-old native of Kharkiv, who temporarily lives in Lviv, stole a mobile phone from a 26-year-old passenger. The perpetrator was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, physical evidence was seized from him.

According to the fact, the investigators of the territorial division of the police opened criminal proceedings under Part 4 of Article 185 (Theft) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum punishment provided by the sanction of the article is up to eight years of imprisonment. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

The police of the Lviv region warns – be vigilant and protect your property:

  • do not carry valuables, documents and keys in the outer pockets of clothes, bags and backpacks – it is better to use inner pockets, waist bags;
  • make sure that the wallet does not stand out on the clothes and does not attract attention;
  • make sure your bag is closed and in plain sight;
  • pay special attention to people who try to get close to you, stand up behind or from the side;
  • you should not always carry large sums of money with you – take as much as you plan to spend;
  • do not list money in your wallet in front of people;

If you do become a victim of a “pickpocket” thief, you must report it to the “102” hotline.

At the same time, it is worth:

  • remember the signs of the intruder: what he was wearing, approximate height, age, build;
  • where did the intruder run;
  • describe the stolen property;
  • block credit cards;
  • wait at the police station.
