On the night of December 31, Ihor Zinoviyovych Derzhko passed away. He was a professor at the Department of Ukrainian Studies and Philosophy at Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University and the head of the university’s trade union organization.
He was 66 years old.
Professor Derzhko was a distinguished scholar and active public figure who contributed significantly to the development of education, culture, and sports in the Lviv region. He also held leadership positions in local governmental bodies.
The university administration and staff have expressed their heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues over this irreparable loss.
Today, the university community bid their final farewell to Professor Derzhko. Hundreds of friends, colleagues, like-minded individuals, as well as government representatives, politicians, and public figures gathered to honor his memory. He is remembered as a scholar, leader, and motivator who firmly believed in the power of education, culture, and sports.
Heartfelt sympathies are extended to his wife, Olha Shved, and the entire family. Their grief is shared by hundreds who regarded Ihor Zinoviyovych as a teacher, mentor, friend, and source of inspiration.
