Lviv residents who have defended the independence of Ukraine since 2014 will be posthumously awarded at the City Hall

On the occasion of Heroes’ Day, Lviv is starting a ceremony of awarding the “Honorary Badge of Saint George” (posthumously) to our Defenders, who have been defending the independence of Ukraine since 2014. On Friday, May 26, the first honors (posthumously) will be awarded to 20 Lviv residents who died at the hands of the occupier.

“Tomorrow we will present awards to the families of those who died first in this war back in 2014. And then we will gradually meet with others. All Lviv residents who gave their lives for you and me will receive such awards (posthumously). The award ceremony itself will take place on the occasion of major state and national holidays.

This time the event is dedicated to Heroes’ Day. The award that the families receive is a symbol of our gratitude and memory of the feat of our Heroes. It is important for us that their families feel that Lviv will never forget them,” says Yevhen Boyko, head of the “Mayor’s Administration” department.

The flags of all types of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be displayed in the hall. A candle will also be lit as a symbol of eternal memory of the Heroes. Musical accompaniment at the event will be provided by the “Homin” Municipal Choir, and the guard of honor will perform the service.

We will remind you that the “Honorary Badge of St. Yuri” is a city award. It is awarded for outstanding services to Lviv. The badge is depicted in the form of a cross, in which is inscribed a circle with the image of St. George, the patron saint of the city.
